While many diseases and medical conditions could be improved through greater, general education, the field of memory loss and dementia is especially constrained by low education. Low awareness about common but benign causes of memory loss leads many to conceal a memory concern out of fear that they might have early Alzheimer’s disease. This delays timely intervention when, in fact, some might fear Alzheimer’s a bit less with a better understanding about the meaningful efficacy of available treatments. Furthermore, better knowledge of the many risk factors that make dementia more likely might lead to healthier lifestyles and to later onset of dementing disorders among a more educated population.

Unfortunately for those promoting education in the area of brain health, advances in our ability to age with healthy brains are constantly mischaracterized in the press or drowned out by unsubstantiated commercial claims. With the content and links at this site, the OCVA Program aims to improve education about brain health as a means of promoting healthy aging and cognitive vitality.
